Sunday is always more relaxed and an opportunity enjoy the koi on show, chat to the visitors and wander the garden show for more bargains. Brenda was busy with a tombola, which was a real hit with visitors to the stand. As is always the case we had a happy event, Fred's shiro-utsuri decided it would be a good idea to celebrate her vat's success by spawning! She was swifty moved to the maternity ward, that is the hospital vat, accompanied by the Mature Champion Showa, who was very ungentlemanly and decided he wasn't interested. Then the Adult Champion Kohaku, was added to the event. That did the trick. However, when it came to cleaning the vat at the end of the show Fred was not impressed even after using his pressure hose. During the morning Judith and Graham circulated the vats, photographing all the koi on show These pictures can be viewed in a separate slide show via the link under the title. Around mid-afternoon it was time for the presentation. Rounding up the winners was interesting but it was finally managed. As the afternoon came to a close at 5pm, it was time to pack the show away for another year. First job is always to get the koi prepared for their journey home and away as quickly and safely as possible. When this job is done then the big task of emptying the vats, cleaning and packing them away, ready for the auction in September can begin. Many hands make light work, or so they say. The big marquees also have to come down and be carefully packed so as not to mix up the parts - slowly does it lads. It takes about 2-3 hours to clear away what took a day to put up and a couple more hours to get it stored away in the club storage units at Barleylands. With a good job done the show is over for another year. Exhausted, but very contented, the club helpers drift home with happy memories of another GREAT SHOW. Our thanks go to Alan Hurley, Andy Patten and the sterling help of all the workers, without whom the show would not be possible. Well done, CROUCH VALLEY. What a great team! Alan and Andy did such a great job that the following week they were re-elected as Show Chairman and Deputy Show Chairman for 2010. Next year's show starts here. |
